Frequently Asked Questions: (FAQ)

Starting therapy for the first time or finding a new therapist can be a challenging and an intimidating process. Finding a therapist you feel is a good fit for you is one of the most reliable variables for your success in therapy. To address the complication involved in starting therapy and to help you get a better sense of who I am, please review the information below.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, I currently accept Cigna, Aetna and TriCare. However, if you have a PPO plan with a different insurance provider, I can provide you with a superbill, which may assist you in receiving reimbursement from your health insurance provider.

How often should we meet?

When beginning therapy with a new client, I often suggest meeting once per week for the first four to six weeks. This allows us to develop a working relationship, to generate therapy goals, and to identify potential obstacles to growth, while building momentum. Following the initial four to six appointments, some clients prefer to continue weekly appointments, while others may desire meeting once or twice per month.

What do I need to do to schedule an appointment?

First, reach out to me by phone or email, so we can schedule a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation. During this call, I hope to learn about what is motivating you to seek therapy services and we will both determine if working with me is a good fit. If we determine working with me is a good fit, we will discuss fees, you will need to complete a few New Client forms, and we will schedule an initial formal appointment.

What happens if I can not make it to my appointment?

If you are not available to attend your scheduled appointment, please let me know within 24 hours of the appointment time. If less than 24 hours notice is provided, you will be billed for the appointment. If you schedule an appointment, I consider that hour your time. If I given less than 24-hour notice, I am generally unable to offer that appointment to another client

Are appointments in-person or virtual?

I have an office located in Mira Mesa, CA. Therefore, if you are interested in meeting in-person and you are willing to travel to Mira Mesa, we can meet in-person. I do also offer virtual appointments. For many people virtual appointments offer flexibility and convenience. Also, virtual appointments allow for any client living California to begin therapy with me.

Do you prescribe medications?

As a psychologist, I do not have the necessary credentials to prescribe medications. Generally, a medical professional such as a primary care doctor, a psychiatrist, or a nurse practitioner prescribe medications for mental health symptoms. I am willing to to help you schedule a medication consultation with a medical provider, if you feel medications would assist you in your growth and recovery.

What is the first appointment like?

A first appointment is referred to as an assessment. During the initial assessment, my goal is to learn more about your mental health concerns, along with other important aspects of your life such as important relationships, academic and employment history, current living environment, and your treatment goals.

What if I have more questions?

Please feel free to reach out to me by phone or by email with your questions. I will do my best to address your questions.
